Lake Effect Days by Philip Sultz

Bookends & Beginnings, 712 Sherman Ave, Evanston, IL.
6:00pm
Join me and Philip Sultz – author, visual artist and my esteemed college art professor – who will read a few stories from his new book, Lake Effect Days. We will converse about the intersection of writing and visual art, and his process of writing flash fiction. Lake Effect Days, a linked collection of very short stories, set in post-WWII Buffalo, NY, is at once funny and moving. Revolving around a group of young men, the sons of Jewish immigrants, who hang out at a late-night diner circa 1950, the loosely autobiographical work of creative fiction creates a vivid portrait not only of a specific place and time, but of an entire generation. Phil has a pitch-perfect ear for dialogue and eye for the telling detail. The book is illustrated with a selection of Sultz’s critically acclaimed collages.
